Does a balcony count as a room?
It is one of the fifteen room types, so the redesign treats it like any other room: the structure stays, the contents change. A patio uses Garden Design instead, since that one works on planting and hard landscaping.
Can it add plants and seating?
That is most of what changes. Planters, a small table and chairs, an outdoor rug, a floor finish and string or lantern lighting all come from the style you pick. The railing and the walls stay put.
Will the railing stay?
Yes. Railings, walls, doors and the shape of the balcony are held as photographed. Only what sits inside them changes, which is the point: the design has to fit the balcony you are standing on.
Should I shoot the balcony in daylight?
Daylight gives the tool the most to work with, and the style sets the light in the design anyway. A jpeg or png up to 10MB is all that is needed, and a phone picture is enough.
